Morning guys, I am on jaxonc2 computer right now. My computer is broken. I tried to install the new HP Photosmart printer yesterday. It crashed my computer. It said the processor was to old. It didn't recognize it. Now when I boot-up, I get this message: While initializing device IOS: ERROR: Real mode system memory allocation failed.
All the guts are new in my computer except the processor. Can I buy a CPU case and processor then take the newer guts out of the old one and put in the new computer? Will that be cheeper than buying a new computer? I can't afford a new computer. I have to do something. I have an expensive new printer now that I can't use.

Make sure you didn't knock something loose in there...you will get that error sometimes if stuff is loose open it up and check the RAM and the processor make sure connections are TIGHT maybe even some contact cleaner?

Hi E, Don't computers suck sometimes? What OS version are you running, and what processor do you have?

Hi Justin, The OS is W98. Here is where I am at right now with the computer. I am now able to backup everything on the harddrive. To get to that point, it required pulling out the modem and SCSI card and resetting the bios. Then Windows booted up fine. The problem is in the bios. Btw, the Computer is an old Compaq Presario 4814. It was the hotdog of its day. It is still a worthy unit with all the upgrades over the years. The processor is the only thing that has not been updated. It would have been replaced if it could have been replaced. The processor is so old now that modern technology does not recognize it anymore. Uncle (badwes) and Carl (jaxonc2) talked me into buying a new computer. They felt it will be needed to do club business more effectively. So I have a newer refurbished HP P4 2.53GHz 512MB 80GB which includes a 17"LCD Monitor with built in speakers for $799.99 coming by FedX from COSTCO. You think I would be really excided. Well I am but it is also hard for me. I feel like an old friend has just died. I have grown attached to my old gal. Her and I have spent many hours together over the years.

I know, it's hard letting go sometimes, still have my old original HP850c printer, never use it, but still have it. Glad to hear you are getting a new computer, sounds like a good way to go, the only suggestion I would have is to get another HD, about 120-150 gig,.. they fill up faster than you think, especially if you are doing anything graphic. The 512 meg ram is also good, you TEXT have too much ram. I just upgraded my computer about6 or 7 months ago, I got a deal on a Dell, 2.65 gig, with a gig of ram and a 120 gig HD. I just got a 160 gig HD to go with the 120 that's in it. (Scans take up lots of room!). I am glad I upgraded from my old AMD powered comp.

Well hi everyone, I am back. I am typing this post on my new computer. It is kind of nice, I guess. I will get use to it. I am planning on keeping my old one as a backup. She is still a good old gal and still quite useful. I think I know why the embroidery shop in New Jersey got rid of this new HP. The first thing I encountered was the Blaster Worm; It was revealed by the Windows error report utility. The computer kept shuting down after a couple of minutes. I managed to get the Nortons anti-virus updates downloaded and a Windows update fix installed. I had to do it in little increments: file by file. The Windows update did the trick, knock-on-wood. It was a good thing I fired off the error report to Windows at the momment it occured. It automatically directed me straight to the fix download. It did all the fixing work for me.

Let me tell you about PC ailments. My '99 IBM Aptiva was born with epilepsy and severe asthsma. This poor thing has had it rough through the years. It has suffered severe hiccups, spasms, a touch of alzheimers, and even experienced a few nervous breakdowns. Somehow, not without a lot of nursing, cursing, a few organ transplants, and reformatting, it keeps hanging in there. Currently it seems to be suffering a bit from most everything topped with a serious case of constipation (I won't mention the burping). . . . . . . . . "but they make life soo much easier!" ooooookay My PC has just undergone some heavy medications. I know it will be [glow=lime,2,400]"much better now !!!" [/glow]

jaxonc2 remedied his computer yesterday. It saw a shrink. (He reformated the harddrive...again). He has to do that every so often because it really does get sick. I have lost count how many times his computer had to see the shrink since he bought it.

Oop! I just found out this morning that jaxonc2's computer may have to go back to the shrink again. Maybe he needs to see another shrink for a second opinion.

well I got a pulse and the pupils are responding but it is still weak. I sat up half the night trying to pull it through and haven't left it's side today.
