This group sure can make things better if we all pitch in! Working with the forest service and other user groups can really effect improvements. Hazards to all of us can be corrected and the entire ‘use’ experience can be made safer, more enjoyable, and conducive to all nature. A story that aint so great While riding last year up in the Little Pend Oreille lakes I experienced a horrible event. The field was wide open and the trail I was following opened up to “undefined.” The terrain appeared smooth and even and my speed was kind of up. Suddenly before my eyes a huge “TANK TRAP” opened up. From even a close approach the ground seemed level but suddenly here was this huge gapping hole in the ground – it was man made. I locked up both brakes and threw myself over to stop. Unfortunately physics said I wasn’t gonna stop. I kept flying on my way to the ground and was finally pulled to a stop by a stump of something. There I was hanging by the chin guard of my helmet into a steep deep hole and no one else was near. Thought my neck had broken by the sound of things. By the grace of God and a good helmet I managed to climb out and get vertical again. Dead end trails and ‘tank traps’ are HAZARDOUS. I hope we can work with the forest service and other user groups to eradicate such situations and open our lands back up and make them SAFE for all users.
