Hi rider's !
Hope someone may help the newbee's I need to get acurate directions (from CDA) to Horse Haven or Horse Heaven landing strip in the Fernan Ranger District. I keep hearing about it and tried to reach from Hayden Creek but no luck. I can't find out much about the type of connecting trails lead around Horse Heaven. Roads, single track etc. not sure what the deal is.
My group is mixed quads and dirt bikes. All adult riders spark arrestors etc. Is Mr. Ranger cool about out of state non-licensed bikes running fire roads in the area? I heard they are not cool unless the vehicle has street plates and you need a drivers license, bucket and shovel per bike!
Does REI or a Spokane map shop have topo maps available with these trails and roads detailed by number?

whiteknuckles, take Hayden Creek road #437 up to the Hudlow Saddle crossroads, then take road # 392 down to the (T), go left on #209, you will cross a small bridge and you're there. You will know it when you see it. You can't miss it. The strip is to the right at the (Y), but the whole area is used for camping and riding. The best camping is in the area left on the (Y), or further up the road to the right on the (Y) passed the landing strip. It can get noisy and dusty camping along the strip. There is a few trail maps around. The trails are more difficult than most. It is mostly two types of riding: technical single track trails or road riding. You will need to have all vehicles licensed and insured. All under age riders have to be accompanied by a licensed driver. Vehicles most have a shovel and bucket. But there are exceptions. A helmet can serve as a bucket. The shovels can be compact. The ranger district may have information on the area that can help you. Horse Heaven is a favorite place for many. It is a beautiful area.

cdaxena, Thanks for the info. I'll look for that route next time at Hayden Creek. We found the way in from Fernan trailering the bikes. Sweet area, had a blast!
Got to get legal though. So Idaho requires a vehicle license? Is there an off-road use tag or permit? Or are we talkin' a street legal registered plate? Insurance! EEEK sounds like a street plate.
I'll poke around on this site more and check State of ID sites. I'll quit being such the Newb.

whiteknuckles, you need license plates on the quads and dual sport bikes. You need off-road stickers for your trail bikes. It is my pleasure to help in anyway if I can. Maybe we all can get together for a ride sometime.

Got'Cha. the ATV's are sport models so perhaps stickers for them. Will check with the ranger station for the deal.
My wife was delighted with the photo of the gang-o-girls shot. She's been riding 10 years and thought she was the lone dirt ranger.
She's a little embarrased that she has a TTR 125 and true "bad girls" are riddin' 500's Wow!
I think 500's scare me! Um, don't let that get out.

whiteknuckles, did you find your way into Horse Heaven? I would like to invite you and your family for a ride in my favorite area in the St. Joe District. The quads can go too!
