Hello all, just thought I would drop by to say hello again and see how things are going up there in the PanHandle. So there is still some snow up on the peaks? From the way my parents friends were talking, I wouldn't have expected there to be any snow up there yet. Some relative good news, I talked to the wifey last night about moving up there and since she is tight with money, I put in the logic that if we sold our current house that we could pay cash for a nice home with some land up there. She actually said that maybe we can do this in a couple years...basically I think she wants to wait until both kids are in school so that she won't need to be as reliant on her parents to watch the kids while she does her errands. I'm not getting my hopes up too high, but ya never know. I better get some work done, so I'll chat with ya later

Howdy Dean, it is great hearing from you again. I bet you were busy this winter racing? How did it go for you?

The series is still going...there are 2 more rounds and then it's over. So far I am in 1st overall in 25+ Jr class and 2nd overall in 30+ Jr...pretty much all I have to do is show up the next 2 rounds and I'll still maintain the overall. Even if I win the next 2 rounds in the 30+ class, I won't gain anything...only if the guy misses a race will I get the overall win, but that is unlikely since his kids race, but you never know what could happen.
You guys I guess are ramping up to start riding again? Did any of you get to do any sledding this season?
Later, Dean

Dean, It sounds like you are having a kick ;D I have ridden on Canfield a few time lately. My mechanic rebuilt the motor on my XR500 over the winter. I've been having a blast riding it. Last weekend, the right carb started leaking again. It has done it before a couple of times. I tighten a screw on the bowl and it would stop. This time, it only got worse. So I had to cut my ride short. I will take the bowl off in the morning to see what is the problem. Hopely, I will get to ride this weekend. The weather is going to be perfect.

Next weekend the wife and I are taking a road trip up to the hills here in AZ to look for some land...we (she) has been looking for the last year pretty seriously and she said if we don't find anything next weekend, we'll just head up to CDA later this summer to find some land instead Needless to say, I won't be looking very hard ( I haven't anyway ) this next weekend...I really want some land up there instead, it's where I plan on at least retiring if not moving up there sooner. Just thought I'd share my excitement....So cross your fingers the wife doesn't find anything worthy next weekend, cause I want to move back to my homeland

Looks like it may be a while before we find land up there, we found something here that we are putting an offer on. Luckily, it does cost too much, so we should be able to start looking up there maybe next year or at least the following year.

I think the market is crazy just about everywhere...our house has just a little over doubled in value in the 3 years we've been there, never thought I'd be in a half million dollar house already We did get screwed on the place we put a contract in for... someone else put in an offer, must have been for the asking price, as the sellers had just signed a counter offer to us and decided to reject ours and take the other buyers. The wife was not happy about that. However, another place just went on the market just down from that place that we may make an offer on...I'm heading up there early tomorrow morning to check it out. If this one doesn't pan out, then we will be heading up to cda to look around in the next month or so, this was quoted from the "boss"

a week or so ago a investor from Cali walked into the Silver Valley Windermere realty office and Bought ALL THE LISTINGS sight unseen for the asking prices.... NOW THATS CRAZY Yeah, I don't get that. We are actually dealing with a clown (an 80+ yo couple) like that now. They own land next to the one we are buying...they have it up for sale, but they have never seen the property...they bought it years ago along with 6 other lots in the area sight unseen. They want full price for it even though the fire (Rodeo-Chediski Fire burned over 478,000 acres of White Mountains, 3rd largest forest fire in US history) burned all the trees on the .5 acre lot AND there is no access to the land except through our lot or someone elses lot due to road damage done from all the rain, etc that has closed that portion of the road off...the people have never seen the property, not even pictures...but yet somehow these people think they have a gold mine I guess, even the realtors around there don't understand their thinking. AZ did pass a law a couple years ago that require the buyers to do a walk through prior to signing the final papers....our realtor mentioned it had something to do with a lot of fraudulant actions that were taking place. Makes sense, I could be selling an investor a dump and make them think it is a gold mine...and when that investor goes to sell it and finds out it isn't worth anything, well This is one reason why I would never buy anything without seeing it first, whether via it's pictures or physically looking at it. As for the investor that bought all that land there, when you say all the land, do you mean just in that area or surrounding areas as well? I'm guessing just in that area...makes me wonder if he/she is thinking of doing more tourist type stuff or is actually going to sell it off later, or section it all off to build subdivisions...d**n cali's I think nature needs to dump a boat load of snow again to make them run again That's what happened according to your old local Sheriff (whom was in office back in the 80's and early 90's, he is my best friends dad)...he said it helped to stabilize the "big boom" that happened there in the 90's after I had left for college/work.

I would like to know who bought the land. Was it some big conservation group? The plan for that area is to close it off. It is in the works to create a connecting corridor between the Selkirks and the Selway wilderness with buffer zones. I am talking about the plan is running off the locals and turning the area into a wilderness. No motorized vehicles allowed!! The environmentalists have been working on their Wildlands Project for nearing two decades now. The general public and Congress started catching on to it about 1998. The Wildlands corridor includes the area from Kellogg, Idaho over to Superior, Montana. I have maps of their plans.

I know what you mean. It seems everyone is off doing something different these days. The high gas prices have curtailed some of the fun. It is funny how people will say, "I have other plans and cannot make it." When what they really mean is, "Sorry I cannot go because I am broke until payday." I think that is more likely the story these day. The high gas prices cut into people's fun money. What the economic trend is right now: "Cost of living is going up and the wages are going down." That is the worst combination obviously.
